The Pub at the End of the Universe

The Pub at the End of the Universe (4107 SE 28th 238-9355) -The shag carpet and wall murals make it feel like you're hanging out at your friend's basement. Multiple pool tables and dart boards, a large selection of beer, and the best jukebox in town.

The Lucky Lab Brew Pub

The Lucky Labrador Brew Pub (915 SE Hawthorne / 503-236-3555) is just what a brewpub should be: unpretentious, spacious, and home to great beer. It also serves good, cheap food. Housed in an old warehouse, the Lucky Lab is a comfortable, relaxed place to go with a couple of friends or with large groups. On sunny days, bring your dog and sit on the back loading dock porch - labradors, lucky or otherwise, get no discount on their beers though.

The Bridgeport Brewery

Bridgeport Brewing Company (1313 NW Marshall 241-7179) - Great atmosphere, gourmet pizza, and some of the best micro-brewed beer around. Housed in a warehouse in the once industrial west side, the loading dock porch has great views of the Fremont bridge, ivy-covered brick walls of old factories, and the every growing Pearl District.

The New Old Lompoc

The New Old Lompoc (1616 NW 23rd / 503.225.1855) is a nice relaxed pub in the not so relaxed Northwest 23rd District. Hidden behind their building is one of the best beer gardens in Portland. It is partially covered and a great place to relax in both the sun and the rain. The Lompoc brews their own beer (try the Bald Guy Brown) and there is a great happy hour menu at this classic Portland hang-out.

Beulahland

Beulahland Ale and Coffee House (118 NE 28th / 235-2794) - This funky yet comfortable bar is a good place for grabbing cheap beer, strong coffee, and inexpensive food. On Tuesday nights, they have the best and most challenging pub trivia in the world. When the weekend comes there is almost always live music but rarely cover charges. With rotating art on the walls, a jukebox, a pool table, old airplane seats, a reading rack, and an old cocktail table arcade game, there's plenty to see and do here even if nothing special is going on. They've recently expanded both their floor space and menu.

Tube

The first impression upon walking into the Tube (18 NW 3rd Ave 503-241-8823) is that you took a wrong turn getting here and have somehow stumbled into London or New York. A futuristic looking concept bar, Tube has a hip yet low-key sophistication that is more about London dub music than Northwest grunge. A few beers compliment the science fiction themed mixed drinks but really you just want to go for the atmosphere.

Update: It has come to our attention that the Tube has recently expanded and integrated with its next door neighboor Foodhole. Expect a new field report shortly!
