The General Merc

Walking into The General Mercantile (413 North Last Chance Gulch / 442-6078) feels like stepping back into Helena’s history. The interior of this tea and coffee house resembles an old west town and is filled with building facades that wouldn’t have looked out of place on the Gulch a hundred years ago. The decor is also filled with cozy niches that are perfect places to sip warm drinks while playing scrabble or other board games. Order a special from the owner Ray, who has been working behind the counter for longer than I can remember, and while you wait, be sure to browse the fine selection of unique cards, local crafts, novelties, antique candies that the Merc also sells.
